Traveling with Lichen Sclerosus: Tips for Women with LS
Traveling is one of the most enriching experiences we can enjoy, but if you have vulvar lichen it becomes a challenge for many women.
However, with good planning and some practical tips, you can enjoy your adventures without this disease holding you back.
Traveling with Lichen Sclerosus : tips for a smooth and comfortable experience
1. Suitcase with the essentials
When you travel, it’s vital to bring along all the care products that help you manage vulvar lichen sclerosus (LS).
Be sure to include:
- Medication: Don’t forget to take your corticosteroids with you, as they are essential to keep your symptoms under control during the trip.
Make sure you carry enough for the whole time you are away as it may be difficult to acquire them at your destination. - Personal hygiene products: Opt for mild soaps, without fragrances or irritating chemicals.
Remember to also carry a vulvar moisturizer such as Dermnix to help keep your skin moisturized at all times. - Comfortable clothing: Clothes made of cotton and without annoying seams or labels are ideal.
Avoid synthetic fabrics that can irritate the skin and opt for loose-fitting, breathable clothing.
2. Plan your stops and breaks
Traveling with Lichen Sclerosus, whether by plane, train or car, can be exhausting.
Plan regular stops every so often to stretch and move around a bit.
This will not only help your circulation but also allow you to adjust your clothing or apply a care product if needed.
3. Watch your diet and stay hydrated.
Travel stress and dietary changes can take a toll on your body.
Try to maintain a balanced diet and drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated from the inside out.
4. Listen to your body
Traveling can be exciting, but it can also be exhausting.
Don’t feel obligated to keep up with others if you need a break. Listen to your body and take time for yourself. Relaxing in your room or under the shade of a tree, enjoying a quiet read or simply resting is just as valid as exploring a new place.
6. Don’t forget to enjoy
Despite the precautions and preparations, remember that the objective is to enjoy yourself. Whether on an exotic beach, exploring a new city or visiting loved ones, focus on the special moments and positive experiences.
